I am exceedingly torqued off. It used to be that New Year's Day was a day-long orgy of football from 11 in the afternoon until 12 at night. Nowdays, several games have been moved to December 31 and January 2nd, not to mention the Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl. It used to be that there were a couple 11 AM games, three or four 2:30 games, etc. But this year there wasn't a game you could flip to when the early games proved to be blowouts (except for an exciting Purdue comeback against Georgia, a game many turned off after it was 24 - 0).

As a result, I spent the day trolling slashdot instead of watching football on the couch and eating my weight in festive holiday cashews.

Michigan was defeated, as expected. Southern Cal dominated, yet with a few bounces it would have gone down to the wire. The Michigan offensive line was terrible, surrendering nine sacks and not being able to establish the run. This was the worst they've played as a unit since 1991 when Florida State's lightning quick D-Line exposed tham as cement-footed corn-fed fat-asses. Southern Cal's defensive line was significantly better than I'd seen them play throughout the year, and Kenechi Udeze looks like the Jevon Kearse / Dwight Freeney of this year's NFL Draft. Similarly, CB Will Poole was The Shiznit as a shutdown corner and blitzer. The USC defense had a tendency to mail it in against inferior Pac 10 competition but played like a group of Chef Emerils today: every time Michigan had a scoring opportunity they kicked it up a notch and BAM! there was a sack or turnover.

Spicy.

For as much as I mock John Navarre (the white, unathletic Kordell Stewart), he really showed me something today. He hung in against a tenacious pass rush and made UM competitive. He played mistake-free football and took a sack rather than throw a costly interception (except for a weirdo pick that ricocheted off Braylon Edwards' foot). He's no Tom Brady, but he could be a solid Fieldler-esque backup in the NFL. To paraphrase Dana Carvey, "Good for him. Good for John Navarre."

I still think LSU is the best team in the country, but should Oklahoma win Sunday I have no problem with a split National Championship. I guess I'm a Communist.

Happy New Year. My New Year's resolution is 1280 x 1024, due to my poor eyesight.

Oh those crazy Britons! London blackmailers have a new scheme: pay up or they'll upload kiddy porn to your office computer. So that's what happened to Pete Townshend and Gary Glitter. I knew they were framed!

Hopefully, my computer is not susceptible to these, ahem, back doors. But just in case, I'll be paying their ransom money in a week or two, just as soon as I receive the twenty million promised me by that nice Nigerian gentleman.

Jamal Lewis goes over 2,000 yards. With a half to play, he's got a good shot at Eric Dickerson's all time record.

David Byrne releases whimsical, postmodern book on... MICROSOFT POWERPOINT!?!

"It communicates within certain limited parameters really well and very easily. The genius of it is that it was designed for any idiot to use. I learned it in a few hours, and that's the idea... Software constraints are only confining if you use them for what they're intended to be used for. PowerPoint may not be of any use for you in a presentation, but it may liberate you in another way, an artistic way."
